„Oil change“ may be a plain but also very flexible term. In most cases the term "oil change" describes a process, that after a more exact technical approach does not correspond with this definition. Therefore it is often talked about a "simple oil change" which in turn is nothing but a definition of only partly changing the oil.
In many cases of application a "simple oil change" is insufficient and sometimes not permitted either. This is especially true whenever machines and systems are being converted from conventional to rapidly biodegradable or food compatible oils. In this case both from the legal and norming point of view the prescribed standards have to be met, i.e. the foreign oil content needs to be reduced to a codified minimum if not entirely eliminated. For this a "complete oil change" is necessary, which is also simply called "conversion".
